A BMW i8 taken stealthier — butterfly doors and a plug-in hybrid silhouette reworked without softening the lines that made the car worth commissioning in the first place. The brief was restraint over reinvention: keep the i8 recognisable, lose every loud surface, and let the factory architecture carry the result on its own. NERO applied a matte grey high-performance vinyl wrap over the factory bodywork, shielding the paint while taking the whole body into a single cool tone that reads differently under every lighting condition. A custom carbon-fibre front splitter was fabricated to the i8's face, deepening the front aero line without disturbing the hybrid supercar proportions. A set of gloss black forged wheels sits inside the existing arches, and a full chrome delete runs through mirror caps, kidney grilles and every remaining brightwork surface — door handles, window surrounds, badge work, body-side inserts. The wrap, splitter fabrication, wheel specification and chrome delete were carried out in-house. The factory hybrid drivetrain, suspension and cabin remain as BMW delivered them. The result is the i8 as BMW drew it in ink, not in chrome — the car that arguably should have left Munich in the first place.

The NERO Process

How a NERO build comes together

Every NERO commission begins with a written brief — the car, the direction, reference imagery, any deadline. From that we draft a specification and an indicative quotation, then agree scope before any work begins. Consultations are handled remotely from our London atelier; workshop visits are by invitation only.

In-house design and engineering develop bespoke aero and body panels in premium carbon-fibre composites — splitters, diffusers, widebody fender work, full aero kits. Paint programmes, paint protection film, and vehicle wrapping are executed through a hand-picked specialist network, named on invoice and accountable to NERO's finish standards. Forged wheels are specified from recognised wheel forgers; interior retrim is worked in premium leather and genuine Alcantara with bespoke stitching, perforation, and embossing patterns.

The build is documented from commission to delivery — photography, progress updates, and a finished handover in London. International delivery, CMR paperwork, and enclosed transport are arranged on request.
